The city bought Air One 13 years ago for 3.5 million dollars.
Winnipeg Police Board chair Markus Chambers says it's nearing the end of its life.
He says police have spent a lot of money maintaining and refurbishing the current chopper.
That's why they're now looking at leasing to own rather than buying a new one.
