Take stock of your laps, we have a Touring Stock race on our hands. Some top NZ radio controlled car drivers are in this final, as the Touring Stock 21.5 turn class has a strong field here today. Time to let the drivers decide, as they battle it out over the 5 minute final.
This is a strong class with all cars running a spec motor with has been tendered by the national governing body. How ever that's the only 'stock' part of this form of racing; as chassis, tyres, and driver ability are all open. They must run rubber tyres, and with the overhead cover keeping temperatures consistent throughout the day - it makes it an ideal place for drivers on a budget - as you can count on the same range of tyre throughout the day.
Although this is a B Final, it's important for new drivers to be able to see how they progress through the championship, improving and evolving. R/C racing is incredibly fasted paced, with a 14 second lap time there is no mental break.
These are incredibly agile machines, and setup options are near limitless as drivers can change camber, caster, roll-centres, sway bar options, damper settings, spring rates - and on top of all of that - they don't know the track layout until they arrive on the day. Some drivers use an FRP chassis, that is on the budget end of the scale - where as others might have invested in a full carbon version like the Yokomo, Team Xray, Mugen Seiki, ARC, Kyosho, Schumacher chassis.
