How fast (slow?) is the stock Tamiya DT-01 Fighter Buggy RX RC Car (Tamiya 58184) from 1996? Here's a GPS Speed Test with the top speed of my original and lightly restored unit! One take, no music, no editing, no slow motion, one-handed driving, short and simple and in 4K. It's Tuesday!
27 kph is approx. 17 mph. It is running on a 6S 7.2v 3600 mah NiMH with full ball bearings and the original brushed 27T Tamiya Silver Can Motor and MSC. The Louise E-Rocket rear tires and Tamiya 2WD Grooved front tires and Astral wheels are not stock but fitted for this on road test purpose (no gear ratio change).

This speed test is the first video of an ongoing process of speed testing the top speed of all my Tamiya DT-01, DT-02 and DT-03 buggies. Just for comparison and the fun of it. More to come. Stay tuned.
Check out previous videos in the channel for more of the Tamiya Fighter Buggy RX and the Tamiya DT-01 chassis.
The Tamiya Fighter Buggy RX from 1996 (released as an RTR model in 1991 under the name Rookie Rabbit) is the first buggy based on the DT-01 chassis and the first buggy of the complete DT-Buggy series that includes the DT-02 and DT-03 chassis.
The DT-01 chassis is in itself the direct successor of the 1984 Grasshopper/Hornet chassis and 1988 Grasshopper II/Super Hornet chassis and indeed the Last of the 'Hoppers', with the characteristic gear box and suspension set-up.
