Here is the Tamiya Rising Fighter. Basically a Grasshopper/Hornet with a Grasshopper II chassis, a modified Super Hornet body and a DT-01 Fighter Buggy gear box.
The Rising Fighter, Tamiya model no. 58416, was released in 2008. It is quite tempting to call it a 20th anniversary model of the Grasshopper 2 #58074 (from 1988) or a 15th anniversary model of the Super Hornet #58124 ("Hornet 2" from 1993).
It inherits a wide variety of great features from it's grasshoppin' and stinging predecessors: Front swing arm suspension, rear rigid rolling axle, silver can motor, plastic bushings and friction dampers. Basically it is screaming for hours of modifications and adjustments. Can one really ask for more fun?
To be fair, this latest addition to the Grasshopper/Hornet family is a great and most welcomed release from Tamiya. Luckily legends never seem to vanish! At the same time it is also currently one of Tamiya's most affordable 2WD buggy kits.
I've had The Rising Fighter fit for fight for quite some time. It was actually my first build and finished assembly kit from Tamiya as an adult. Better late than never. Since it was my first, this can also explain why it is not painted at all! Hope to find some time to remake another body for it.
I never really got to the part of running it outside though. Too preoccupied running my Grasshopper rerelease. But here it is, my first conservative 100% stock test run. As I chose to run it on tarmac, I equipped it with some old used wheels and glued tires from my DT-02/DT-03 buggies. Exactely the same as on the stock Rising Fighter.
A warm thank you to two of my current subscribers, Sigbarth RC and AMPro Engineering, for rekindling my interest in this model. I am of course myself a subscriber of their channels and I highly recommend a visit to them.
Hope to do many more videos and off road running with the RIsing Fighter in the future, and if time permits it ... start to modify it. Many options and directions available. What about a "Hornet III"?
Comparison of The Tamiya Rising Fighter 2008 and The Tamiya Grasshopper 2005 coming up next!
