Broken-In ... or just Broken? Here's the first test run of the Tamiya CC-01 Longheroni Chassis - coupled with a fresh Tamiya Mercedes-Benz Unimog 406 Body. The initial plan was a quiet and cozy test run in our backyard and forest ... enjoying a day without rain. It all started out good, but then temptation got me ...

The CC-01 Longheroni chassis conversion kit was kindly supplied by 3DRap, free for review and tests. You can check it out here with this (non-affiliate!) link: https://www.3drap.it/scalers/

To be fair to the manufacturer and the brittle-by-nature-3D-print-material, the screws on the body posts where tightened a lot (too much?) and on top of that, to fit the standard body holes of the 3DRap, they where mounted in a slightly bend and angled way. My guess is that there was a good chance they would have held up for longer, had they been mounted in a correct position.

But ... that being said ... my guess is also that they definitely wouldn't last as long as standard plastic body posts. Compared to the countless rolls, flips, tumbles-down-hills and rally runs I've done with my standard CC-01 over the years, without ever breaking a body post (or anything else than the gears), the 2-3 rolls on this run are nothing.

Well, being well aware of the fact that the 3D-material is quite brittle, my initial plan was to run this very gentle and slowly. As mentioned before, just a nice companion for some slow walks in the forest. But temptation got me here. I am just used to the occasional rally--blasts and full throttle with my old CC-01.

Nevertheless, I definitely think I'm done upgrading this chassis. Luckily it's an easy repair (where I might use some Tamiya plastic body posts instead) and the plan is then (again) to use it for some quiet slow walks by myself or with the family, but other than that, nothing more planned at the moment. Let's get back to the buggy projects.
