A Russian Su-27 fighter intercepted a reconnaissance aircraft RC-135 of the US Air Force in the sky over the Baltic Sea.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a Sukhoi Su-27 took part in the operation to intercept the foreign aircraft. The Su-27 was flying at a safe distance from the US spy plane during the operation.

The Russian fighter jet returned to the home base after the RC-135 retreated from the Russian border.

The activity of foreign spy planes near Russian borders has increased lately. According to the Defence Ministry of the Russian Federation, in 2018, radio-technical troops of Russian Aerospace Forces detected and escorted 980 thousand aircraft, of which more than a thousand were reconnaissance aircraft.
