Today, we are looking at the Reflex Racing RX505 kit, which is a rear suspension geometry conversion for GLR-GT. I bought this upgrade used, and it came from the seller mounted on a carbon chassis plate. It also came with PN side dampers.
As mentioned in previous videos about the GT, the roll action of the rear pod relies on this pivot mechanism. It's impossible to dampen the roll properly. If we ask the internet, RX505 is essential for making GLR-GT drivable on a track. It converts the GT to a traditional tri-damper pan car geometry.
Let's install RX505 quickly!
We need to pause here for a second. Because RX505 relocates the mounting point of the side links, it's important to adjust the shims on the rear pod pivot. There's really no better way to do this other than trial and error. At the end of the process, the side links should be relaxed, and the motor pod free to pivot, including droop.
This is a good time to apply some loctite on that pivot ball. Continuing with the install...
Need to change the long top shock setup back to standard length for RX505. And reapply some shock grease as well.
Here, we can see the action on the side dampers when twisting the motor pod. Using 15k shock grease, this RX505 tri-damper geometry can be dampened much more effectively compared to stock.
RX505 is one of those upgrades that can only be tested on a track. I will report back at the next track opportunity. In the mean time, I'm driving it at home to sanity check the changes. The car is running with PN KS medium slick front (8.5mm) and PN KSM super soft radial rear (14mm). One thing is immediately noticeable -- the car tracks straight easily. The combination of greased side dampers and the vertical spring setup, vs the finicky stock pivoted shocks, means good rear pod centering. This contributes a lot to ease of driving. That's promising!
Just for fun, please see some 50% slowmo shots.
