Graeme ('Scaledown')'s wonderful electric ducted fan-powered Lightning was scratch-built mostly from Depron. I believe that the EDF power unit is the same as that used in the Vulcan - a 50 mm FMS 11-blade fan. The design is entirely Graeme's built upon his extensive experience in building models with challenging compound curves from Depron. This model flew very well indeed and showed fitting performance for a fast jet model. Handling was good, except that he commented it could do with a bit more aileron authority. Both pitch and roll are controlled through differential movement of the tail elevons. There are no control surfaces on the tail fin or wings. Well done Graeme and congratulations on a successful maiden. Looking forward to a Lighting escort for the Vulcan once they are both finished with final paint jobs and markings. Thanks also to Sarel for the hand launch.
