Newark Radio Controlled Car Club - A Final 28/02/25

The one where I tried changing hex width in the qualifiers and then a shortie lipo for the final.

I laid down a benchmark in Q1 with the standard, out of the box hexes. Going into Q2 I fitted the -0.5mm ones to both ends of the car. I knew the car was in a good place to start with so this was a good opportunity to learn a bit about this setup change.

The narrower hexes made the car harder to drive. It felt like it was lacking in front end. Certainly it wasn't turning in as well and I had to increase my steering lock on the transmitter to compensate.

For Q3 I went to the +0.5mm hexes. This was a vast improvement coming from the narrower options. The car felt a lot nicer and easier to lap consistently. I left these on for the final.

Since I'd bought some new Reedy SG6 shortie lips for my buggy racing I decided to give them a go in the Xray using the optional weights which also move the posts so the smaller battery will fit. These are 4800mah instead of the usual 6100mah I run.

The car felt more alive than before. I went through the top left corner and over the loop more positively than previously inspiring me to push a little more and ultimately carry greater speed onto the straight.

I'd hard to tell if they were "falling off" after 4 minutes, but the car was lapping faster with taking 0.3 secs off my single fastest lap so something to think about.
