BlackSeaRC presents the first video in a series featuring the MST RMX 2.5 RTR GR86RB Iridescent Purple (IP) brushless 1:10 scale rear-wheel drive (RWD) high-performance radio-controlled (RC) drift car.
This model, part no. 533913IP, is described by MST as an "entry-level and professional drift car". It was designed specifically to be a drift car rather than using a generic on-road chassis converted for drifting. There is an extensive range of optional parts available to upgrade and customise the RMX. It is described as a "Ready-To-Run" (RTR) product which means it comes with a pre-painted and pre-cut body. My particular version is finished in iridescent purple and changes colour in the light from purple to dark blue. Despite being RTR, there are still quite a lot of activities required to complete the body and this video will look at these in detail.
The standard specification of the RMX 2.5 includes:
257mm wheelbase, large angle steering system, durable injection-moulded plastic chassis and structural parts, independent front/rear suspension with adjustable oil-filled shock absorbers, Savox B-07MG metal gear steering servo, MST MGX drift racing gyro with sensitivity adjustment, CS-R "Gold Dot" mid-range general application drift tyres, adjustable battery tray for standard or shorty battery packs, Deans T-plug connector, Hobbywing XBL 50A brushless ESC with integral cooling fan, MST XTR-03 2.4GHz 3-channel RC transmitter with 3-channel receiver unit, adjustable mounting points for front and rear suspension, steel CVD rear driveshafts, full set of ball bearings, Hobbywing XBL 3652 2500KV brushless motor, adjustable steering with metal ball joints, camber angle adjustable from 0 to -12 degrees, caster angle can be set to 6/8/10/12 degrees.
The RMX designation indicates a rear mid-mounted motor configuration. As supplied, the chassis is set-up with the motor in the LCG (low centre of gravity) configuration. Alternatively, a HCG (high centre of gravity) motor configuration is possible.
The body is an accurate reproduction of the 2022 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR86 2+2 seater production sports car. The "RB" designation refers to Rocket Bunny, a name synonymous with drifting worldwide. TRA-Kyoto is a respected Japanese tuning house and their sub-brand, PANDEM, designs wide-body kits and aerodynamic parts under the Rocket Bunny name. This MST RC scale model is specifically based on the PANDEM Rocket Bunny GR86RB Wide Body Version 1.5 Aero Kit with GT wing.

A number of different variants of this model are available. There are different colour options for the GR86RB body including red (533913R), light blue (533913LB), magenta (533913M) and a clear body shell that requires painting (533913C). Additionally, there is a brushed motor version (part number 531908). The RMX 2.5 has a choice of body styles including BMW, Ford, Mitsubishi and Lamborghini.
MST also has alternative models designated RRX (motor positioned behind the rear axle), FMX (motor just behind the front axle) and FXX (motor above the front axle).
I also purchased a number of optional parts to go with this model including:
- MST Front/Rear Stealth Magnetic Body Post Set (829141).
- MST Changeable Offset Wheel Set, Type 501, Black/Black (832103BK).
- MST CS-R Drift Tyre Set, Red Dot, Soft (101024).
- MST Universal Drift Tyre Fitting/Removal Set (700006).
- Zeee 7.4V 5000mAh 2S 100C hard-case shorty LiPo battery pack with 4mm bullets.
The video looks at the packaging, box contents, gives a detailed overview of the chassis and body, preparation and installation of body accessory parts, overview of optional parts I purchased, how to use the magnetic body mounts and how to assemble wheels and fit tyres. It also looks at the real car that inspired the scale model, including the wide body versions.
