This JJRC Q46 SPEED RUNNER 1/12 scale High Speed Desert Buggy was sent to me by rcmoment.com
Thank you very much!
This car uses a chassis, which is pretty much identical with the WLtoys 12428 Rock climber. WLtoys replacement parts are compatible. But if you have a very close look, you can see, that the parts don’t come out of the same mould. The 2.4GHz remote is also not compatible.
In this video:
- Unboxing
- In depth look
- Teardown
- Sealing the gearbox
- Review
- Testdrive and bash
- Rear differential repair, using WLtoys parts …
What I like on this car:
- How it looks and feels
- Metal CVD driveshafts on the front axle
- Metal joints on the rear prop shaft
- Metal central driveshaft
- Aluminum bracing on the front hinge pins
- Aluminium skid plate
- Not too much backlash in the steering
- Good servo saver mechanism
- It did survive a 2km trail run with much mud and water. So it has a certain level of water-tightness.
- Compatible with WLtoys replacement parts
What not:
- Too much dead zone around the steering center position
- Not enough suspension travel on the rear
- No oil filled shocks
- Very top-heavy
- The brittle plastic differentials. The rear one already cracked after the first battery!
Luckily, metal differential upgrades are available: https://www.aliexpress.com/popular/rc-differential.html
So, if you upgrade the gears it will survive just fine. There are also lots of other metal upgrade parts (same as for the WLtoys 12428) available and if you want to improve the horrendous steering, you can use a standard 3 pin servo, a standard 2.4 GHz receiver and a new ESC. You can even make it brushless. I may do this later on.
According to this link, you can also use modified Remo Hobby SMAX metal differentials: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2661007-WLtoys-12428-1-12-4WD-Crawler-review/page27
