FREEWING JAS-39 GRIPEN | FIRST FLIGHT: ESSENTIAL RC FLIGHT TEST
Perfect day for the maiden flight of the JAS-39 Gripen. Initial attempts with the 6S6000 packs were not successful despite the CG only being slightly in front of the recommended mark. The jet would not rotate on a fair run down the field. So dropped in a 6S5000 pack and this time the Gripen jumped into the air a lot earlier than expected. Not great surprise that some trim in roll was needed due to the fairly complex canard/elevon setup but after this was done on the first circuit I settled down into some high speed passes and reversals at either end of the field. Landing was zero drama. Off the throttle and let the jet slow down, then go to third throttle on final and pitched the nose up. Landed on the mains and the nose bounced once. Not too shabby for a first flight and actually very happy with the outcome and how adventurous I was with the low passes and rolls. Looking forward to getting the Freewing JAS-39 Gripen in the air again soon!
