Maiden flight of my Freewing A-10 Thunderbolt II with the 90mm EDF upgrade!
I'm using the Freewing 12-Bladed 90mm EDF's with Freewing 3748-1550 Brushless outrunner motors.
Powered by 2 Turnigy Graphene 6,000mAh 6S 65C batteries with Freewing 130A ESC's and 2 Freewing UBEC 8A.
The flying weight comes in at just under 6.9kgs, and with the battery bay configuration you see in my build vid. https://youtu.be/79DnmqS-i0g
The center of gravity comes in at exactly as to the manual, which is 78mm back from the leading edge.
I also have installed a Freewing 3 axis gyro which I highly recommend if you would like to fly smoothly and scale like manoeuvres.
I had the gyro switched off on the first flight.
The maiden flight went off without a hitch with almost no trimming required on the control surfaces.
Flight characteristics seem to be very predictable with no bad vices. I am still yet to flight test at slow speed, but in saying that I was able to achieve fairly low speeds on approach and landing without any indications of a wing about too drop!
Can't wait to get a few more flights on this aircraft and to see what it can really do!
Overall this is a great aircraft and I highly recommend it! Has fantastic presence in the sky and great scale attributes!
It will surely turn heads at your local field and attract a crowd!
Like to say a big thanks to Captain Ding-Dong for filming the maiden flight, great job mate! And also thanks to Yoda for his advice on set ups with this aircraft!
Cheers Scotty.
