FMS A-10 Thunderbolt II v2 1.5m 6S twin EDF jet: ESSENTIAL RC FLIGHT TEST

Everything arrives extremely well protected in the big box for this A-10. After unpacking you'll be surprised how few parts there are but this makes assembly time a small number of minutes. The instructions are very clear and you will have you receiver plugged in and have this model setup on your transmitter very quickly. We especially liked that the decals are pre-applied and in combination with the arctic camouflage scheme this looks like a real aggressive A-10.
Our version of this A-10 came with the FMS Reflex flight stabilisation system. This requires an extra channel configured to a 3 position switch so you can move between Stabilized, Optimized and Off modes.
Stabilized mode:
Designed for beginners, Reflex will rapidly level the aircraft from any attitude when this mode is activated. Stabilized mode combines accelerometer and gyro data to determine how to level the aircraft when the control sticks are released - giving pilots absolute peace of mind.
Optimized mode:
Utilizing advanced solid-state gyros, the Reflex system maintains aircraft attitude by counteracting inflight upsets - from gusts to crosswinds. With Reflex, even small aircraft will fly with the confidence of something much larger!
Off:
Turns off all gyro functionality, the aircraft is flown completely manually by the pilot when the gyro is off.
A 6S5000 to 6S6500 pack is required with an XT90 connector. Ensure you get the 80mm to 85mm CG balance from the leading edge of the wing.
The two EDF units get this A-10 in the air very quickly. Use half flap on take off and it will jump off the deck. Cruise at half throttle and you will get a good 5-6 minutes flight time if combined with a few full throttle passes and vertical climbs. Aerobatic flight is rewarding with this A-10. Rolls are smooth and full power enables very climb to pull over a reversal from a cruising speed. At 1.5 metres wingspan this A-10 is big but the single 6S pack keeps it light and agile.
Landings are easy. Throttle to idle, let the A-10 slow, put in full flap and add throttle on finals to maintain speed, pick up the nose with a touch of elevator to try and touch the mains down first and then the nose wheel.
Filmed by Jason for the 'Essential RC' YouTube channel using the Panasonic AG-UX180 Pro 4K camcorder at our local model flying club. Jason also caught some wicked video with a GoPro HERO 7 Black action camera on his race drone.
