The US DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE (DoD) awarded a $153.3 million modification contract to Kay & Associates, an Illinois-based engineering solutions provider for the US Armed Forces, on January 30, 2024. This contract is to support and maintain F/A- 18C/D Kuwait Air Force Hornet .
Under this amended contract, the aircraft will receive maintenance, operations, and management support services as well as missile maintenance repair and storage facilities. Work will be carried out at an undisclosed location in Kuwait. The US Department of Defense estimates the work will be completed by January 2025.
Foreign Military Sales customer funds in the amount of $76.6 million will be obligated at time of award, none of which will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
The F/A-18 Hornet became the nation's first all-weather fighter and attack aircraft and was designed for traditional strike applications such as interdiction and close air support without sacrificing combat capability.
Production of the F/A-18C/D ended in 2000, with the final delivery of an F/A-18D to UAMC in the summer of that year. In April 2018, the US Navy announced the retirement of the F/A-18C from combat roles.
