As mobile technology improves, we're seeing more and more car-sharing schemes promised, ranging from ad-hoc car shares based on commercial fleets as well as peer-to-peer car sharing.

The benefits to such a system are huge: owners get to make money by sharing out their cars, and the number of cars on the road don't go up because vehicles are servicing more than one need.

But in order to make such a system really work in the real world, there are some pretty basic challenges that need to be resolved -- such as how to keep a vehicle clean, how to ensure owners who lease out their cars are protected, and how we get over the thought that our car is being 'used' by someone else.
