Flight Day! All planes were piloted successfully with the help of the Porterville Flyers. We even got a demo of Phase 2... Flying using FPV goggles! The purpose of our 3 phase project is to create an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capable of being piloted via video goggles or monitor and a laptop computer. The phases and purpose of each phase are as follows: Phase 1 (RC Airplane Build) - Construct a fully-functional RC aircraft Phase 2 (Video FPV) - Understand Optical&Video Transmission Basics Phase 3 (Autopilot/Mission Planning) - Computer programming, Pitot-static, GPS,&Telemetry The goal is to get the cadets excited about careers in the sciences and the potential Emergency Services application of UAVs in search/rescue activities. Phase 1 (RC Airplane Build) - Cadets learned aerodynamic&electronic principles (science), radio control systems (technology), RC aircraft/wing/engine design&construction (engineering), and electricity&electromagnetic radiation laws and formulas (math).
