Its hard not to be inspired by seeing a giant rocket fall out of space and land gently on the ground. I wanted to achieve the same thing with small scale, and using a brushless motor in place of a pyrotechnic rocket motor makes it much easier.

My longer-term goal with this project is to make a rocket capable of carrying a GoPro type camera to high altitudes, falling back to earth, then landing in a controlled fashion. The rocket in this video could carry a camera and preform perfect landings but it wasn't efficient enough to reach high altitudes.
