530Hp Audi R8 LMP (2005) - 3.6-Litre Twin-Turbo FSI V8 Engine - Imola & Nürburgring Racetracks

The car you see is the 2005 Audi R8 LMP, a sports prototype Barchetta that the house of the four rings has used in Endurance races. This model is the last with a petrol engine before being replaced, in 2006 with the subsequent R10 TDI diesel. I had the pleasure of filming it in a couple of occasions, on the Imola circuit for the Motor Legend Festival and the Nürburgring track during the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix. During its long racing season, ended in a team that is no longer official but still winning, continue to won a couple of 24h of Le Mans with pilots such as Emanuele Pirro, Tom Kristensen and Alan McNish. The car is the latest evolution of the basic design that began with the 2001 versions. The 2005 model is powered by a 3.6-litre V8 Twin-Turbo engine with direct FSI petrol injection placed in the central/rear position. The power was drastically reduced by regulation and went from 625hp in 2001 to about 520hp of the current model. The construction features a monocoque in aluminium and carbon fibre, a 6-speed sequential gearbox from Ricardo and independent Push-Rod suspension on the front and rear. The weight is slightly higher than 950Kg.

La vettura che vedete è l'Audi R8 LMP del 2005, una barchetta sport prototipo che la casa dei quattro anelli ha impiegato nelle gare Endurance. L'esemplare è l'ultimo con motore a benzina prima di essere sostituito, nel 2006 con la successiva R10 TDI diesel. Ho avuto il piacere di filmarla in un paio di occasioni, sul circuito di Imola per il Motor Legend Festival e sulla pista del Nürburgring durante l'AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix. Durante la sua lunga stagione di gare, terminata in una squadra non più ufficiale ma restando comunque vincente, si è aggiudicata un paio di vittorie alla 24h di Le Mans con piloti quali Emanuele Pirro, Tom Kristensen ed Alan McNish. La vettura è l'ultima evoluzione del progetto base che iniziò con le versioni 2001. Il modello 2005 è dotato di un motore V8 Twin-Turbo da 3.6 litri con iniezione diretta di benzina FSI collocato in posizione centrale/posteriore. La potenza venne ridotta drasticamente da regolamento e si passò dai 625cv del 2001 ai circa 520cv del modello attuale. La costruzione vede una monoscocca in alluminio e fibra di carbonio, un cambio sequenziale a 6 rapporti della Ricardo e sospensioni indipendenti Push-Rod all'anteriore ed al posteriore. Il peso è poco superiore ai 950Kg.
